PMI made a difference | A short story of success

In 2018, PMI was tasked with assisting South32, Hillside Aluminium, to find a way to utilise their training spend to make a difference in their community. The goal was to find training solutions that would assist in upskilling their local community whilst tackling the high unemployment rate.

The proposed solution was to offer bursaries for unemployed youth to embark on an Entrepreneurship Programme. The Entrepreneurship Programme was a combination of PMI’s Higher Certificate in Business Management to give these learners a full qualification, coupled with the added entrepreneurship programme to assist them with marketing and research of business opportunities in the area. This included assistance with writing their business plans to source funding as well getting the businesses registered and operational later down as soon as possible.

PMI would like to introduce you to Lindumusa, one of the beneficiaries of the Entrepreneurship Programme. He is a young, enthusiastic and ambitious entrepreneur who is steadily climbing the ladder in the business environment. His dream was to become an electrical engineer and a businessman. His most memorable moments were when he qualified as an electrician with RBM, then later joined South32 in the quest to uncover his potential in the engineering field. He was then nominated to go onto PMI’s business entrepreneurship programme sponsored by South32.

Lindumusa now runs his own engineering company that supports major industries, which keeps him in touch with his passion for the engineering field. His company has been on boarded by large corporations like Mondi Transnet and LH Marthinusen as one of their suppliers. His business aspiration is to become one of the biggest and trusted service providers to major industries providing engineering solutions and innovations.

The PMI Programme has helped Lindumusa to understand the dynamics of the business world and how to manage customer relationships, HR and acquiring relevant management skills such as Project management and finance.

South 32 offers Bursaries to unemployed youth who are mainly resident in the King Cetshwayo District.  PMI is proud to be able to make an impact on the  lives of our youth in such a positive way!
