Alliance for YOUth – building our shared future
The Alliance for YOUth is an alliance of like-minded companies working together to help young people around the globe get access to the skills they need to thrive in the working world. To borrow the inspiring words of the South African Springboks, we are most definitely #strongertogether.
Making a difference
This initiative was launched in Sub Saharan Africa on 4 November 2019 and is open to corporates who want to make a difference in the lives of our youth. With our ambitious goals to build workplaces and careers of the future and to contribute to the South African economy and society at large, the Alliance for YOUth is an initiative that we as Adcorp can truly get behind.
The Alliance aims to help young people develop their skills and gain experience so that they can find meaningful work or start their own businesses. As we embark on this journey to help equip the next generation for the world of work and teach our youth to become creative innovators and game-changers, regardless of their field or level of expertise, we implore other companies to join us.
A lot to learn
This Alliance is going to help build thriving, resilient communities and supports the UN sustainable development goals. Not only this, but it will also help to boost our businesses.
Young people are drivers of change, influencing new ways of work and bringing dynamic energy and innovation into workplaces. Our youth are the employees that will help us navigate the rapid rate of change that our businesses are facing. They will help us reach new markets and consumers and find innovative solutions to the business challenges of the future. Therefore, it is a business imperative that we invest in developing the skills of the youth.
Stronger together
This is a business-driven movement to promote a better transition from education and training into the workplace and to improve the employability of those below the age of 30. To date, we stand alongside Nestlé, ABB, Publicis, Life Healthcare, African Development Bank and Nielsen in the Regional Alliance for Youth in Sub Saharan Africa to tackle our high youth unemployment rate. We are confident that more companies will be joining us soon.
Take action
The benefits for the students include a week-long programme hosted by the Alliance partners at a central venue, exposure to various careers and organisations, interaction with people currently in formal employment, the opportunity to develop a network and identify mentors, as well as an opportunity to work on a group research project on a topic determined by the Alliance partner companies.
For companies who want to sign up to participate, the Alliance welcomes businesses of all sizes and operations. The benefits include bursary and internship recruitment opportunities, the chance to identify mentees and access to and use of the research results. For more information or if your organisation would like to join the Alliance, please contact Desiree Zikalala on +27 11 514 6044 or email: Desiree.Zikalala1@za.nestle.com.
